This is the Old Bleach Bowling Club, where we
are kindly allowed, the use of their premises to hold our meetings |
|
In the early years, when Membership numbers were strong, the Randalstown Branch of the
British Legion (as it was then) held their meetings in ''The Comrades Hut"- this was effectively a converted Nissen hut which was probably brought after World War 2 from the American Army Camp in Shanes Castle and resituated in New Street. Unfortunately over the years this hut fell into disrepair and the membership of the Branch could not afford to maintain it. There followed a period when meetings, by now few and far between, were held in various locations (halls, cafes, lounges etc) until the 1980s when the Branch were taken in by the Old Bleach Bowling Club (originally part of the recreational side of The Old Bleach Linen Company. It became an independent Club with the demise of the Parent Factory) and now the Branch has been practically 'adopted' by the Club.
Not only does the Branch hold its meetings here but also its Annual Dinner, occasional
social functions and use of the various facilities - this year as the home venue for Randalstown R.B.L. in the Legion Bowling Competitions.
This arrangement is ideal for the Branch (some of the Branch members play bowls for the
Club and some of the Club members are also Branch Members) and we are very grateful to Old Bleach Bowling Club for their support |
